Local travel grants available for HIV/AIDS coverage

Journalists from countries across Asia have until October 10 to propose in-depth, local stories for a special series related to World AIDS Day, which is December 1. The Asia Media Forum (AMF) Web site is organizing the competition.

Journalists whose proposals are selected will receive a grant for up to three nights of travel in their home country, plus an honorarium upon completion of the project.

The accepted journalists must produce a story or series of stories of at least 2,000 words. The stories must be published in the journalist’s own publication, and they will also appear on the AMF Web site and be distributed through the Asia-Pacific section of Inter Press Service (IPS) news.

Besides a focus on HIV and AIDS, priority themes include human rights, marginalized groups, children, reproductive health, and innovative HIV/AIDS projects, among others.

Proposals should specify the angle to be explored, the place within the country to visit, if applicable, and the different kinds of sources to be interviewed. They should also include a current resume and two work samples.

For more information, contact Surasak Glahan at info@asiamediaforum.org, or telephone 662-246-7877-8 or 664-101-4776.
