| (FORMERLY THE MACARTHUR FUND FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT)
2005 - 2006 |
| |
| The Population Council, an international, non-profit,
non-governmental organisation established in 1952, seeks to
improve the well-being and reproductive health of current and
future generations around the world and to help achieve a humane,
equitable, and sustainable balance between people and resources.
The Council undertakes biomedical, social science and operations
research. It works through its four regional and 14 country
offices. The Council's Regional office for South and East Asia
is located in New Delhi, India. |
| |
| FELLOWSHIP FOR HEALTH AND POPULATION INNOVATION |
| |
| Population Council, India, through a programme,
funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation,
provides fellowships to those individuals who wish to evolve
innovative approaches including action and/or research initiatives
in the areas of population, reproductive and sexual health and
rights and generate sound evidence to inform programmes and
policy as well as potential replicability and scaling up of
these approaches. We invite proposals for projects that focus
on: |
| |
| Young people's sexual and reproductive health
and choice, including for example, ways of facilitating delays
in the timing of marriage and first birth and the exercise of
informed choice; and of promoting sexual health and rights of
young people including for example gender-sensitive sexuality
and life skills education for young people, confidential health
services and programmes for young men that promote sexual responsibility;
innovative measures for keeping girls in school and implications
for health and marriage age. |
| |
| Making pregnancy safer, including for example,
access to appropriate care including emergency obstetric care,
empowering women to make healthy choices and ensuring skilled
care in the ante-natal, delivery and postpartum periods; understanding
key underlying legal and/or social factors affecting maternal
mortality and morbidity and reproductive decision-making. |
| |
| Addressing the needs of women experiencing unintended
pregnancy, enabling access to safe abortion |
| |
| Contraceptive use dynamics and decision making
and strategies that enable informed contraceptive choices for
women and men; dual protection; and address unmet need for contraception;
access to non-terminal and emergency contraception. |
| |
| Quality of a range of reproductive health services,
including for example, reproductive tract and sexually transmitted
infections; HIV; pregnancy; infection; safe abortion; and pregnancy-related
care |
| |
| Strengthening men's involvement and responsibility
in sexual and reproductive matters, including women's health-seeking
behaviour and prevention of infection and violence. |
| |
| Developing models to improve dialogue between
diverse groups including women's groups, health care providers
and policy makers. |
| |
| Advocating for changes needed in health, educational,
and legal policies to create the political will needed for their
implementation within the framework of human rights, gender
equity and equality. |
